Targeted Relief for Tight, Painful Muscles

Heard of dry needling but unsure if it will work — or whether it hurts? You’re not alone. Dry needling is a safe, effective technique where very fine, sterile needles are inserted into tight bands of muscle (trigger points) to release tension, reduce pain and restore normal movement.

At Progress Physiotherapy, dry needling is performed by qualified physiotherapists and always used as part of a broader treatment plan — never as a standalone quick fix.

What Dry Needling Can Help With

  • Muscle tightness and trigger points
  • Neck and shoulder tension
  • Lower back pain
  • Headaches related to muscle tension
  • Sports injuries and muscle strains
  • Hip and gluteal pain
  • Tennis and golfer’s elbow
  • Chronic muscle pain

Does Dry Needling Hurt?

Most people feel far less than they expect. The needles are extremely fine — you may notice a brief muscle twitch or a dull ache as the trigger point releases, which typically settles quickly. Many patients describe the after-effect as similar to post-exercise muscle soreness.

Your physiotherapist will explain everything before treatment begins, and dry needling is only ever performed with your full consent. If it’s not for you, we have plenty of other effective techniques to achieve the same goal.

We welcome Medicare (EPC), DVA, TAC, WorkSafe and NDIS patients, with HICAPS available for on-the-spot private health claims.
